Product facts
What Nota is
Nota is English-first invoicing for freelancers and small independent desks. You write an invoice, send it by email with a PDF and a unique pay link, and mark it paid when the client pays through your Stripe Checkout. Nota is not bookkeeping software and not a time tracker.
What is Nota?
Nota is freelancer invoicing software. The core loop is create, send, then paid. You write the invoice with both parties, the line items, tax, currency, and a due date. Nota emails that invoice with a PDF and one pay link. When the client pays, the status stamps paid. People use it to send a freelancer invoice, to email an invoice, and to put an invoice pay link in front of a client without opening a finance suite.
What Nota is not
Nota is not a bookkeeping or accounting suite, and it does not keep a general ledger. It is not expense management, time tracking, or timesheets. It is not payroll, inventory, or a multi-user accounting product. Wave and Zoho are a reasonable choice when you want that full finance desk. Nota is meant to be less software and a faster send: the invoice and the pay link, without adopting the rest of the stack.
How does paying an invoice work?
- The freelancer connects their own Stripe account.
- The client opens the unique pay link from the invoice email.
- The client pays with Stripe Checkout on Nota’s pay page.
- The invoice status becomes paid.
Funds and payouts follow the freelancer’s Stripe account. Nota does not hold the money in a wallet of its own.
How are invoices sent?
Invoices are emailed to the client. Production mail uses the domain send.notainvoice.com so the From line is a stable Nota sending domain rather than a one-off relay. The PDF is attached to that email. Reply-To is the freelancer’s own email, so a question about the invoice goes back to the person who sent it.
How much does Nota cost?
Free is about 3 invoices per month. That cap is a trial, and Free is not an open-ended plan. Pro is $5 per month. Pro adds unlimited invoices, unpaid reminders (one before the due date and one after), and logo and business defaults. The pay link works on both plans. Pricing on the home page is at Pricing.
Does Nota take a fee from payments?
No. Nota does not take a percentage of client payments. Card and processing fees are charged by Stripe to the freelancer’s Stripe account under Stripe’s pricing. Nota’s only product fee is the optional Pro subscription at $5 per month. The Free plan has no Nota subscription fee. Nota’s subscription is separate from Stripe’s processing fees.
Does Nota take a fee from each payment?
No. Nota does not take a cut of client payments. Stripe charges processing fees on your Stripe account. Nota only charges the optional Pro subscription ($5/mo).
Who sets the card fee amount?
Stripe sets it, for your country and account, from Stripe’s published rates. Nota does not mark up those fees and does not quote a country-specific card rate.
Who is Nota for?
Nota is for independent freelancers, consultants, and small studios who need to send an invoice and put a pay link in front of the client. It fits the hour you write the invoice. It does not ask you to move your books or your timesheets into another product.
Who is Nota not for?
Nota is not for teams that need payroll, inventory, multi-entity accounting, or a deep expense workflow. Those desks should use a full suite. This page does not promise that Nota will grow into that scope.
